Description
“Justice is justice though it's always delayed and finally done only by mistake.”
– George Bernard Shaw
This one took me a long while, from conception to actual painting because utter craziness in college didn't allow me any free time. Vacation came and I finally had the time and will to finish it (instead of destroying my fingers attempting to play my forgotten violin 8D).
It had been long since the last time I'd drawn Itachi, probably around 2008, when I first read about his death (manga). Then, since I watched it live in colours I've been dying to draw him again, which culminated in this, after a LONG while. Something that I'm not completely satisfied with yet. Oh, well. lol
Concept?
When the village elders made him choose between Uchiha Clan and Konoha it was almost like forcing Itachi to put both of them on the scales and see what weighted more for him. In the end, as we saw, Konoha won and he slayed his clan.
In my opinion Itachi was put in a situation in which he was forced to choose between two things that weighted too much, hence the little difference that supported his choice (one ounce). This horrible choice made him tread in the pool of blood he formed himself when he destroyed what was precious for him.
The image is inspired in Iustitia, the roman goddess of Justice, who holds a pair of scales and a sword, her eyes covered (as justice has to be impartial in her judgement).
In this case he's holding the tanto towards the Uchiha symbol, as he was forced not to be impartial as Iustitia, but to choose who he would save and who he would betray (cracking the Uchiha to a point it would bleed all over him and all his future).

There are several things about this work that I'm still not comfortable with, since this was one of my first tries with digital coloring that I pushed until the end (many others never got to see the light of day).
Does the color scheme match? Should there be more red reflex on the character to make the color match better? It was my first try with colored lineart, should I leave it as it is or apply graduation to it as the lighting and shadows proceed? How about the metal? Does it look like metal? What can I do to make it look better? What about shading? Am I forced to apply texture somewhere else because I used it on the blindfold? Does the movement of the liquid look right?
Feel free to critique anything else!
